Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Europe- 'Carrie'

"When light goes down, I see no reason
For you to cry. We've been through this before
In every time, in every season,
God knows I've tried
So please don't ask for more"

There are those power ballads that while great, seem to be overlooked and then there are the ones like Europe's "Carrie" that seem to go down in hair band history. If I say "Carrie" you'll instantly think of the 1987 hit song right? Doesn't it start to immediately play in your head? Of course it does and that is exactly what first set this ballad apart from most of the rest.

Europe first broke through in the U.S. in May of 1986 with "The Final Countdown" and they had a string of hits that followed while hair bands ruled the music scene.

One thing that made this Swedish rock band a bit different was the fact that they barely spoke any English at all while recording songs like "Carrie" and didn't really learn the language until they found themselves touring with Def Leppard and performing at festivals beside Bon Jovi. While girls named Carrie were thrilled to finally have a song named after them back in 1987 this was actually about a girl being dumped! Check out this live performance of "Carrie" by Europe!
