Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Bad English- 'Forget Me Not'

I will be your keeper you possess the key
Forget me not forget me not
'Cause you belong to me, yeah
I will be your shadow when you walk away
Forget me not forget me not
I will follow you until your dying day.

Those lyrics are a little stalker-ish, aren't they? John Waite has always been a favorite of mine when I think back to 1980-something. I instantly connect him with his ballady "Missing You" and while I know that he was the lead vocalist for Bad English in 1989, I completely forgot about this song ."Forget Me Not" was a huge hit on the modern rock charts, in spite of not cracking the top 40 on Billboard's Hot 100.

I happened to catch this video this weekend and was sucked in by Neal Schon's guitar work. I remember when Bad English first arrived on the scene I had a hard time taking John Waite seriously with all of that hair but the songs, boy did they click. As of right now, they still do.

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: John Waite - 'Missing You'

Every time I think of you
I always catch my breath
And I'm still standing here
And you're miles away
And I'm wondering why you left

And there's a storm that's raging
Through my frozen heart tonight

I hear your name in certain circles
And it always makes me smile
I spend my time
Thinking about you
And it's almost driving me wild

And there's a heart that's breaking
Down this long distance line tonight

I ain't missing you at all
Since you've been gone away
I ain't missing you
No matter what I might say

The summer before 8th grade there was one ballad that was constantly on the radio- John Waite's "Missing You". The video stuck in my head too because as a kid I was positive that he was walking down streets in NYC, a place that I was obsessed with. It wasn't until I was much older that I learned that it was actually filmed in LA but on a non-descript street so it could look like any big city at all.

As for the song itself, it still kinda tugs at my heart strings just a little. It's also timeless and I think it holds up as one of the best ballads to come out f the 80's.
