Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Michael Jackson - 'Thriller'

Image result for michael jackson thriller

"It's close to midnight
Something evil's lurking from the dark
Under the moonlight
You see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream
But terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze
As horror looks you right between your eyes
You're paralyzed
'Cause this is thriller
Thriller night
And no one’s gonna save you
From the beast about to strike
You know it’s thriller
Thriller night
You’re fighting for your life
Inside a killer thriller tonight, yeah
Ahahahahahahahaha
I'm gonna bring it tonight"

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Robert Plant- 'Tall Cool One'

"Move over mister - step on back in the crowd
'Cause she's a whole lotta sister 'bout to drive me wild
Lotta places I've been, lotta names, lotta words
No one compares to my real gone girl
Lighten up baby, I'm in love with you."

When Robert Plant left Led Zeppelin it kind of seemed like a no-brainer that he would of course go on to have a fantastic solo career. It was his fourth album, Now and Zen that is probably the best remembered, thanks in great part to the success of "Tall Cool One". Ironically, it wasn't the best charting song, landing in Billboard's top 25, but MTV kept the video in heavy rotation. Coca Cola knew a catchy tune when they heard it and started using "Tall Cool One" as part of a commercial campaign. The fact that it samples a medley of Zeppelin hits at the end doesn't hurt either. Check out the video below, do you remember this one?

Currently Booming: George Michael’s 'Faith' Turns 30!

Revisiting this in honor of George Michael:

On this date way back in 1987 George Michael's Faith album was released. Since its release  Faith has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide and is listed as one of Rolling Stone's top 500 albums of all time. It was Michael's first venture since leaving Wham! and most of the tracks have a serious R&B slant. Right out of the gate Michael showed that he wasn't afraid of a little controversy and by the time that all was said and done, he appeared to enjoy stirring the pot and making listeners form opinions about some serious issues.

The first single, "I Want Your Sex" ensured that Faith would debut in the top spot on Billboard's charts and the second single, "Faith", helped to cement its dominance. Over the course of about 18 months six different singles hit hard on the charts, with their being something for just about everyone. Check out a few of the classic videos from Faith below. What one is your favorite?

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Dan Hartman - 'We Are The Young'

"Every street is an arcade of dreams
Uptown, downtown, explodin' at the seam
With lights and sounds and the soul parade
White and blue collar promenade

We are the young, we are the young with the modern attitude
Breakin' down the walls, breakin' all the rules
We are the young, tomorrow comes and we might blow away
So we don't worry 'bout the price we pay."

I really loved Dan Hartman back when I was in 8th grade. "I Can Dream About You" was one of my very favorite songs and for as much of a fan as I was (or at least thought I was), I didn't remember"We Are The Young" until Martha Quinn played it on SiriusXM the 80's on 8 the other night. Like, not at all. I'm pretty sure I must have loved it at one point in time in spite of that.

"We Are The Young" was actually Hartman's third and final single to make the charts and it was considered a crossover hit because it first slayed on the dance charts. Hartman's music has lived on long past his short life ended back in 1994. Apparently, the singer died of an HIV related brain tumor after years of living his life as a closeted gay man. Songs like this one and "I Can Dream About You" make me wonder what else Hartman might have given us had he lived longer.

Check out the video for "We Are The Young" below. Does this one ring a bell?

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Daryl Hall & John Oates - 'I Can't Go For That (No Can Do')

I can go for being twice as nice
I can go for just repeating
The same old lines
Use the body
Now you want my soul
Ooh, forget about it
Now say, no go

Yesterday afternoon we took a ride to do some shopping at a mall about 25 miles away. There are outlets about five minutes away but ironically enough (especially for a house full of book nerds) the nearest big bookstore is at that mall, so off we went. We moved to this area well over a year ago and there are a few constants in "the salt life": there is humidity even during boots weather, deer, raccoon's & ducks do coexist in our backyard and last but certainly not least, Hall & Oates is always on the radio.

Always.

We noticed this pattern after a few months. Every time we get in the car there's a Hall & Oates song. Eventually the kids were sold on this duo and when I started to rebuild by record collection we "had to" get Hall & Oates. Not that it took a lot of convincing.

I was raised on Daryl and John. I think my dad had all of their early stuff and by the time they were making slick videos in the 80's I was totally sold. I mean, does any 80's child NOT remember Hall & Oates "Private Eyes" video, complete with trench coats and claps on the beat? I didn't think so. I remember my mom's best friend running a day care out of her home back in the early 80's and I went to help her for a day. I loved Rita and would use any excuse to get to hang with her so sure, I had no problems reading stories and making sandwiches.

On this particular day though, Rita had the new Hall & Oates album (the one with "Maneater") on, all...day...long. It eventually was my job to keep flipping it over after the final song on each side. Hall & Oates were big back then, way big and not just in music. They also had their names attached to a lot of different products and you can find them in nearly every magazine pitching something.

Apparently it's not just our family that still loves Hall & Oates either. There's a reason that they are constantly on the radio here, I found that out last summer when they were scheduled to play a local festival. Tickets sold out in under ten minutes. Who didn't get any? This girl. It was also one of the few times that my media request fell on deaf ears too! Next time around you better believe that I'll be on a mission.

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Tina Turner- 'Private Dancer'

"Well the men come in these places
and the men are all the same
You don't look at their faces
and you don't ask their names
You don't think of them as human
You don't think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
keeping your eyes on the wall

I'm your private dancer
a dancer for money
do what you want me to do
I'm your private dancer
a dancer for money
and any old music will do."

I fell in love with Tina Turner's music back in 1984 when she released Private Dancer. I knew nothing of her career years earlier with Ike and I knew nothing of her struggle to establish herself as a solo artist. I only knew that when the video for "What's Love Got To Do With It" started I was completely sucked in. I remember at that time my dad would buy singles' and add them to a mixtape, then I'd get to keep the 45. At the time my dad, like every other DJ on the radio was mesmerized by Tina's fishnets on the cover. I just thought she reeked of coolness.

By the time the title track, "Private Dancer" was released I was already a fan. At first, I thought that the song was a bit boring but it quickly grew on me. Now many moons later I love it AND all three of the videos that have been released for it. The one below is my very favorite. Shot during a concert at Wembley Arena, it shows just how popular Tina really was in her heyday. It's also a subtle version of a song that's kind of timeless, don't you think?

Daily Boom 70's Throwback: 'The Adventures Of Wonder Woman'

Image result for Wonder Woman tv show

2017 has in many ways, been the year of Wonder Woman. The film did fantastic, securing a follow up and God knows how many more movies will follow after that one. Forty years earlier, The Adventures Of Wonder Woman was one of the biggest hits on CBS. The show later went on to be one of the biggest cult classic shows to come out of the 70's. Lynda Carter was perfectly cast as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and in the eyes of many, she remains the only true Wonder Woman.

I remember being obsessed with the show. Sure I was like seven, but I still understood that she was worth paying attention to. Halloween rolled around and that was my chance to actually BE my very favorite superhero. I guess it didn't really occur to me that a pants-less costume wasn't appropriate on a little kid. When my mom showed me my costume which included a little skirt, I flipped. I had a cape with stars & stripes and a gold crown with the red star but without the boots it was all kinds of wrong.

I kind of wish pictures still existed from the Halloween party at my house that night because knowing my mom's creativity, I probably looked a lot more like Wonder Woman than I thought at the time. For the next few years I couldn't get enough of Wonder Woman so Super Friends was my fav Saturday morning cartoon.

The current version of Wonder Woman is already all over the place, but do you remember the 70's icon? Check her out below!

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Pretty Poison- 'Catch Me I'm Falling'

Related image

"You came into my life

The look in your eyes

Took me by surprise
It's you
And nobody else
Your love hase made me
So blind I can't see
From heaven above
So catch me I'm fallin baby
Hold onto my love
Catch me now I'm falling
Catch me I'm falling
Catch me now I'm falling
Falling in love

I am descending
Catch me I'm falling"

When I think back, 1987 was really as big a year for dance music as it was for hair bands. I mean, for every Def Leppard or GNR there was a Lisa Lisa or an Expose`. Pretty Poison was part of that syth-driven vibe that permeated top 40 radio at the time. "Catch Me I'm Falling" quickly became a favorite song during the summer of 1987 and I can remember the group popping up everywhere from American Bandstand to Soul Train. I also feel like they may have been a part of the final season of Dance Fever.

Everywhere I looked I saw Jade Starling and the rest of the group and I loved them. What was there not to like? The song was great and I was kind of obsessed with the whole bustier-tutu look (that was first made popular by Jody Watley). Truth be told, even thirty years later, "Catch Me I'm Falling" still has the kind of energy that gets me moving in the morning. Hopefully it'll have the same effect on you. Currently Booming: New 'Freedom' Documentary Rips The Bandaid Off & George Michael's Death Still Stings

I can still see my dad coming through the door with a big grin on his face. It was the summer of 1984 and he was carrying a record in his right hand. That sight was actually quite familiar because back then dad worked at a radio station and he made a habit of “borrowing” records overnight. He would tape them on a scrap tape and then add the song to the mixtape in his expansive musical library where he thought it sounded best. The next morning he would slip that record back into the pile at work and act as if he never had it in the first place. On this particular occasion, it was a group called Wham! That had put the smile on his face. He was barely in the door when he began telling me about the song and how I had to hear it, right then and there.

I followed dad upstairs and curled up in his big green armchair as he fiddled with his turntable before turning to put his headphones on my head. I had just turned thirteen and was already familiar with Wham! It was that pretty boy George and the other guy. They wore short shorts while dancing around in big “choose life” shirts. Bubblegum pop wasn't exactly dad's thing so I was a bit shocked by his excitement until the music started. I sat listening, just melting into the saxophone and the smoky vocals of “Careless Whisper”. I looked at dad and he knew that I totally got it. I couldn't put my reaction into words any better than him, but I shared his excitement. Thirty-two years later nothing really compares to the feeling of finding a piece of music that, for whatever reason, resonates. It's private and it's personal, yet it's a feeling that millions of people understand without any explanation ever being needed.

Learning of George Michael's death was like a knife piercing through my thirteen-year-old heart. It's a feeling that has been brought my way a few times too many.

Musicians like David Bowie, Glenn Frey and of course, Prince. Sitcom parents like Florence Henderson and Alan Thicke. Hell, even fake villains like Stefano DiMera on “Days Of Our Lives” wasn't safe from the grim reaper that 2016 ultimately turned into.  Those of us that came of age in 1980-something need the sadness to stop and we need to roll along with at least some of our childhood icons untouched.

I mean, have you really thought about why the collective loss of so many celebs seems to be cutting so many of us to the core? I don't know about you but I feel that with every death I feel just a little bit older. The sometimes harsh reality is that those of us that were teenagers when Headbangers Ball was first a thing and when dressing in the perfect mix of neon, lace bows, and rubber bracelets were a fashion “do”, aren't getting any younger. In fact, we are teetering around age fifty, give or take a few years.

Fifty. Remember when thirty sounded absolutely ancient? Now add two decades. I can still rap right along with the Beastie Boys, but I have a husband, kids, a house, grandbabies, work stress and all sorts of daily multitasking to accomplish. I'm at an age where I'm fortunate to still have my parents but many of my friends have buried theirs. It's also a time in my life when so many around me have waged their own life and death health battles that I can't help but wonder when it'll be my turn. Sometimes the only thing during the day that takes me back in time to when finding the perfect shade of Princely nail polish was my only care in the world is spending four minutes in the car listening to “When Doves Cry” on blast.

Adulting is hard and we naturally hang on to everything that takes us back to an easier time. Watching as time has systematically picked off parts of my own pop culture history has felt like slowly shutting the door on my own childhood. Every generation has watched as their own icons have fallen, but never like this. The internet, with its' developing stories, instantaneous tributes and social media platforms that allow us to grieve side-by-side with complete strangers has also made the death of Michael, Bowie, and Prince that much more palpable. It hurts to think that there will be no more new music, interviews or live appearances and it's now okay to admit that hurt because it has become a hugely shared experience. One that actually seems to somehow help.

'Freedom' was filmed near the end of George's life and it has made me realize how much his absence still stings. Why is it that we appreciate people a little more after they draw their final breath? I've been listening to George Michael all morning long- ('Listen Without Prejudice/MTV Unplugged' have been reissued and are now available) wondering why I don't do it more often. How is it that people end up being placed on a glass pedestal after their death rather than being fully appreciated while they are here on earth?

Nothing and no one is permanent. I'm working harder at appreciating people and their talent while it's unfolding in front of me. Assuming that they'll always be there when I have more time or feel like paying attention is just foolish. Oh and that bucket list? I added George Michael to my concert bucket list after Prince died and well, I should have seen him when I had a chance ten years ago. I regret not doing it now.

This year I've made good on my vow to buy the tickets, spin the vinyl lining shelves in my office and be grateful to have experienced the likes of Prince, Madonna and George Michael in their heyday.

Freestyle Friday: Sweet Sensation - 'Never Let You Go'

"You are the earth and I am the sea
The world together, forever, I'll be all that you need
You and I were always meant to be
If you should leave and go your own way
I'll still love, I will survive but every night I pray
That you will find your way right back to me
I'll, I'll never let you go
I'll keep you on my heart"

I love Freestyle Friday here at Boom because it's one of my very favorite genres of old school music. Back in the fall of 1988 glam rock was everywhere and it almost made some of the dance tracks even more appealing since they were so completely different from the likes of, well, "Welcome To The Jungle".  Sweet Sensation was one of several girl groups (Expose`, The Cover Girls, JJ Fad, etc.) that were doing battle on Billboard's charts. "Never Let You Go" was their first break out hit and after it hit number one on the dance charts mainstream radio also embraced the girls.

Betty Dee Lebron is the main voice behind the group and back in the 80's they had some of the best choreography around. The original line up of Lebron and sisters Mari and Margie Fernandez grew up together on NYC's lower east side and by 1988 Shelia Vega replaced Mari. Together the trio performed all over the world, bringing their Latin freestyle sound with them.

Sweet Sensation was one of those groups that helped convince me to take a break from the hair bands every now and then. My friends and I also figured out how to mix the huge headbanger hair with biker shorts, crop tops, and little ruffled skirts so that we could pay homage to both genres at the same time.

Ironically, the Fernandez sisters technically own the Sweet Sensation name and along with Sheila Vega still do shows. Betty Dee also performs the Sweet Sensation catalog regularly with Belle Ritter and Jenae Colon. Both ladies joined Sweet Sensation back in 1991 and have stuck with its' original lead singer ever since. The great news for freestyle fans (especially in the NYC area) is that you can still catch the ladies performing all of their classics live!

You can get a copy of Sweet Sensation's debut album Take It While It's Hot which features "Never Let You Go" by clicking below!

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: New Edition- 'A Little Bit of Love (Is All It Takes)'

Image result for new edition a little bit of love

"If you want to make things right
Love can make a way
If you want to take the time
Act like what you say, yeah

A little bit of love is all it takes
A little bit of love goes a long, long way
A little bit of love is all it takes
A little bit of love is lovely"

I'm going to be totally honest here. I don't remember New Edition's "A Little Bit Of Love (Is All It Takes)" at all. Not a single bit. Nothing from my archive of 1985 memories screams New Edition either. But I recently had MTV Classic on and the video came on and I was hooked. I have a hard time believing that I didn't like this song. I mean, I must have, right? This was the last album before Bobby Brown left for his run at a solo career and it was at a point in time when things behind the scenes seemed to be going pretty smoothly.

I think I almost have more appreciation for New Edition and other boy bands more now than I did 20 or 30 years ago. Back then the market was saturated with groups of guys that could sing and dance to the point of normalcy. It's just not the norm anymore. Pulling together a bunch of guys and getting them to move as one while harmonizing isn't an easy task. Since my radio is no longer blowing up with a bunch of 20-year-olds put together to sell records I really appreciate the originals. Say what you want about New Edition or NKOTB or Backstreet Boys but the fact is, they've had longevity for a reason. The music was and still IS good. Check out "A Little Bit Of Love (Is All It Takes)" below!

Daily Boom Lost Hit: Mötley Crüe - 'You're All I Need'

Image result for MOtley Crue You're All I Need

"The blade of my knife

Faced away from your heart
Those last few nights
It turned and sliced you apart
This love that I tell
Now feels lonely as hell
From this padded prison cell
So many times I said

You'd only be mine
I gave my blood and my tears
And loved you cyanide
When you took my lips
I took your breath
Sometimes love's better off dead"

When it comes to power ballads, Motley Crue was deadly serious when they released "You're All I Need" . It was originally written by Nikki Sixx for a girlfriend that he believed was cheating with soap star, Jack Wagner. He handed her the lyrics and never intended to turn it into an actual song but the rest of the band had another idea. They rallied for it to be included on their Girls, Girls, Girls album and won.

I remember when the video for "You're All I Need" was about to drop because MTV immediately banned it. It was filmed in black and white and showcased a young couple fighting violently until the woman is eventually killed. The Crue have always maintained that stories on the 6pm news are far worse- and they are. But I have to say, even in 2017 this video jolted me. I know that it horrifically plays out in homes all over the world and that's simply a fact. But the way that this was shot, it makes it all feel very real. You can pick up the emotional rawness in it and I think that's why it was banned.

In the 80's music relied heavily on videos to sell records and I think that the reaction to this one caused the song to stall out in the bottom half of the top 40 on Billboard's Hot 100. Check out the video below. Do you remember this?

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Chicago - 'Hard Habit To Break'

Image result for chicago band 1984

"I was acting as if you were lucky to have me
Doin' you a favor I hardly knew you were there
But then you were gone and it was all wrong
Had no idea how much I cared
Now being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
But i don't want to
Living without you
Is all a big mistake
Instead of getting easier
It's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to ya babe
You're a hard habit to break"

I'm still a sucker for a great 80's ballad and Chicago's "Hard Habit To Break" will probably always hit a nerve with me. I have no gut level love story connected to it. In fact, I was in seventh grade when it reached number three on Billboard's singles chart. But the lyrics? Well, I still always kind of got them. Back in 1983, MTV was enough of a novelty that even the videos for ballads like this one were watched with such interest. I remember my parents hadn't invested in "the music authority" yet so I lived to watch at my best friend's house after school. And it's funny because the very first memory that I have when "Hard Habit To Break" comes on is of sitting on the living room floor with my friend and her older sister and demolishing a bag of Middleswarth chips while watching the video.

Great memory. Great song. Chicago have had so many hits since the late 60's that's it hard to pick a favorite but this really is mine. Check out Peter Cetera and Bill Champlin sharing vocals below!

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Rufus & Chaka Khan - 'Ain't Nobody'

Rufus was an American funk band from Chicago, Illinois best known for launching the career of lead singer Chaka Khan. Do let your ego kill your talent, get around singer's and musician. Learn, don't lock yourself in your room and sing to your webcam. Get face to face advice, it's much more nicer. Trussst me !

"Captured effortlessly
That's the way it was
Happened so naturally
I did not know it was love
The next thing I felt was
You holding me close
What was I gonna do?
I let myself go
And now we're flyin' through the stars
I hope this night will last forever"

More than forty years ago funk band Rufus started performing with a soul singer by the name of Chaka Khan. They spent about 12 years cranking out hits before Khan decided to embark on a successful solo career. ("I Feel For You") One of their signature songs was "Ain't Nobody" which was featured in the movie Breakin' and on its' soundtrack as well. It's definitely my favorite Chaka song of all time and apparently, it's a lot of other peoples as well, as it has been used as an audition song for reality competitions repeatedly.

A few weeks ago it was announced that Rufus and Chaka Khan are among the list of nominees for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame for 2018. I'm kind of a stickler and think nominees should be rockers. But I'm thrilled to see that make any list that involves public acknowledgment because Rufus with Chaka was fantastic.

Aside from loving this song, it's Monday and I think this is a great way to get you all moving. So here it is:

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Ratt - 'Lay It Down'

Image result for Ratt 1985

"I know you don't really know me
I know you don't really care to see me
I'm into total affection
Not being scared if you never please me
You know you really want to lay it down
Right now
And how"

When I was 16 I started to work at a fast food restaurant and crushed hard on a coworker. He was hilarious, creative and REALLY into Ratt. I was already familiar with Stephen Pearcy and the rest of the group (hello, Round & Round?!) but didn't realize just how much I loved them until Invasion Of Your Privacy came out. It to this day remains a favorite album. Not only do I like every song, but I want to hear it all in order. How often do you actually get to say that about an album?

"Lay It Down" was the first single released and it kind of threw down the proverbial gauntlet for the rest of the album. It was the second-highest ranking top 40 hit for the band and one of their best videos. Check it out below!

Daily Boom 90's Nostalgia: Janet Jackson - 'That's the Way Love Goes'

Image result for janet jackson that's the way loves goes

"Like a moth to a flame
Burned by the fire
My love is blind
Can't you see my desire
That's the way love goes"

Janet Jackson returned to the airwaves in 1993 with a totally different vibe and it was fantastic. "That's The Way Love Goes" was an introduction to a smoother, sexier Janet and we all loved it. Her self-titled album remains my favorite and the series of videos that were born from it are some of the best of that decades. "That's The Way Love Goes" just sets the tone for the rest of the album. Watching Janet with "the kids" (her dancers) always made me want to be one of them. It was a great girl squad before girl squads were officially a thing.

The song slayed commercially too. It sat at number one on Billboard's Hot 100 for a record eight weeks and won a string of awards including a Grammy. Check out the video below. Let Janet take you on a journey back in time. Ya know, 24 years ago when life seemed a whole lot simpler!

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Foreigner - 'Waiting For A Girl Like You'

"When you love someone, when you love someone

It feels so right, so warm and true, I need to know if you feel it too
Maybe I'm wrong, won't you tell me if I'm coming on too strong?
This heart of mine has been hurt before, this time I want to be sure
I've been waiting for a girl like you to come into my life

I've been waiting for a girl like you, your loving will survive
I've been waiting for someone new to make me feel alive
Yeah, waiting for a girl like you to come into my life"

There were so many great power ballads to come out of the 80's. I love the term "power ballad" because it insinuates that the group can really rock out once this particular song ends. That idea certainly held true for Foreigner back in 1981 when they released "Waiting For A Girl Like You".  It was one of those mushy songs that got tons of airplay because of the sentimentality (wedding song material). I was really young so I didn't care about that but I did love the synth vibe to it that a then-unknown Thomas Dolby provided.

"Waiting For A Girl Like You" was the second single released off of Foreigner's 4 album and it went to number two on Billboard's Hot 100. "Urgent" was the first release and it grabbed lots of attention so fans were ready to see what was up next when Foreigner dropped their ballad. I can remember fighting to get a clear signal on my transistor radio whenever either song came on because I loved them equally.  Check out "Waiting For A Girl Like You" below. Is it one of your sentimental favorites too?

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Samantha Fox - 'I Wanna Have Some Fun'

I want to have some fun
Move my body all night long
Working hard every day
So I ain't staying home no way

So technically, it's Freestyle Friday here at Boom and I know that Samantha Fox isn't exactly in that category but she is one hell of a dance artist. She has also taken part in some of those freestyle shows that criss-cross the globe so in my mind, that makes Fox fair game. Close enough, right? Plus, I've always loved her. Fox was the very first woman that I can remember bluntly singing about sex in songs that actually charted well.

"Touch Me" was her breakthrough hit in the U.S. and I think the shock value alone easily made copies fly off of the record store shelves. By the time Fox returned with a follow-up album in 1988 we all knew what she was about. "I Wanna Have Some Fun" became a hit in my senior year of high school and it was one of those club hits that my friends and I listened to in between Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. It was simply a fun track that just so happened to have a double entendre which worked perfectly for Fox's sexed up image. Check out the video below. Were you a Samantha Fox fan?

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: New Order- 'Blue Monday'

Those who came before me lived through their vocations
From the past until completion, they'll turn away no more
And still I find it so hard to say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me just how I should feel today

Any idea what the most successful 12" single of all time is? That honor belongs to New Order's "Blue Monday", with its many reissues, remixes and dance club vibe. While it was first released in 1983 and became an underground dance hit, it was "Blue Monday's" reissue in 1988 that seemed to launch the song into orbit. Suddenly every DJ played it and we all loved it because it was different. The sound is totally unique and so rather than blending in with the house music that was taking over the late 80's, New Order's songs stood out in a good way.

"Blue Monday" has lived on since its 80's introduction because numerous artists have either sampled or covered the tune. I know that you've heard it often, but have you ever actually seen the video? Check it out below!

Daily Boom 80's Throwback: Force M D 's- 'Tender Love'

"Here I lay all alone, tossin', turning
Longing for some of your tender Love
I'm waiting for the right moment to come
So I can thank you for all the tender love you've given to me"

If you were listening to American Top 40 on your radio 30 years ago then one of the songs that you might have been waiting to record was the Force MD's "Tender Love". It was sitting in tenth place on Billboard's Hot 100 after becoming one of the best songs to come out of the Krush Groove soundtrack. Those are the details but if you were a teen then you knew this song because it was THE love song of the moment. "Tender Love" generated lots of dedications (remember when that was actually a thing?) from the left coast to the right and to this day it's easily recognized the minute it begins to play.

The Force MD's first connected in Staten Island back in 1981 and despite having some old school hip hop roots it was their ballads that really brought them success. The band was also considered to be very early pioneers of the New Jack Swing movement that really took off in 1990. Sadly, three of the group's original members died of various causes in the late 90's. The remaining members put out their last Force MD's album in 2000.

Check out "Tender Love" below. I promise that you're going to remember it.
