I think REO Speedwagon is one of the very first bands that I really remember from childhood. I don't mean just a song here and there either. When Hi Infedelity was released it was always playing somewhere. My dad had it in his nightly rotation. The people that lived across the alley from us would blast it when they were outside and my friend Judy's older brother played it constantly too. They had the big liquor cabinet, side table, turntable thing and if it wasn't REO that was blaring then you can bet it was The Cars instead.

I knew all the words to every single song (whether I wanted to or not) but "Take It on the Run" was probably my favorite. It was a bit heavier and really showcases (still) what a great band REO Speedwagon is. Check out a live performance of it below!

REO Speedwagon Guitarist Gary Richrath Dead at 65

 "Hi friends, kc here. My longtime friend and collaborator Gary Richrath passed away earlier today. I feel so sad. Gary was both a unique guitarist and songwriter, and the embodiment of the tough guy with a heart of gold. I learned most of what I know about being in a rock band from Gary Richrath. The entire REO Family mourns his death and shares in the grief of his family, friends, and fans. These words do not come close to expressing the depth of emotions I am feeling at this time...kc PS. This photo has been on my music room table for as long as I can remember, and will stay there." said Cronin on REO Speedwagon's website today.

No other information surrounding Richrath's death has been released yet but his death seems to already have effected many. If you're a child of the 80's then at some point in time an REO song has been part of the soundtrack of your life. Richrath collaborated with Cronin on songs like "Take It On the Run", "In Your Letter" and "Keep On Loving You", helping to drive REO straight to the top of the charts.

So much attention is always on the singer and lyrics. This time around, listen to "Take It On the Run" and listen for Richrath's great guitar riffs.
