Hey you guys I've got GREAT news. Daily Boom has a brand spanking new writer, Zoe Sinkaus! She is going to help us to bridge old school pop culture with what is currently packing a punch. You know that old saying about how if you wait around long enough everything comes back in style? Well, Zoe is going to help prove that. Coast Modern

Coast Modern's sound is so unique, yet familiar. And if you really listen to the lyrics, they sing about some pretty deep and even depressing stuff. But, their rhythms and melodies are so light and joyous. It truly makes a great combination.

If you like Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction you'll like Coast Modern.

Hippo Campus

Hippo Campus is similar to Coast Modern in the sense they sing about some sad stuff, but their songs are somehow uplifting. But overall, Hippo Campus has a very different sound. They're more rock, which I'm usually in the mood to listen to instead of indie funk (which is more like Coast Modern).

If you like The Church, Breaking Bells or Radiohead you'll like Hippo Campus.

The Kooks

I'll admit, I started listening to The Kooks when I was 13 years old because a boy I liked listened to them and I thought the lead singer (Luke Pritchard) was cute because he's British and had the whole angsty rocker thing going for him. Almost 7 years later, and I still listen to The Kooks because their sound keeps evolving and pushing the boundaries of what's labeled as indie rock. Plus, most of their music makes you feel like you're traveling on a road trip, heading to the beach with your closest friends and that always makes me happy, even when I'm stuck at the bank (my day job).

If you like The Strokes or Franz Ferdinand you'll like The Kooks.

Catfish and the Bottlemen

Let me start off by saying, I think seeing this band live would be absolutely AMAZING. You can practically feel the band's energy oozing out of every song, even if you're not watching a video of a live performance or a music video. Van Mcann's voice is honest and raw. You can tell he's passionate about what he's singing about, and that makes me feel passionate. I feel like Catfish and the Bottlemen are almost in the same league as The Strokes.

If you like The Strokes, Radiohead or Halfmoon Run then you'll like Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Currently Booming: Is Mariah Carey Worth $5 Million for a Night?

Just how much is Mariah Carey really worth for a single performance? Well, we know that Caesars Palace in Las Vegas was willing to pay millions earlier this year to make Carey their newest resident diva but is she worth even more than that? Apparently someone overlooked all of the vocal struggles that Carey has had in recent years and is willing to make her even richer. Millions of dollars richer.

According to a report by TMZ, Carey will make a fortune for one performance, "We're told Carey just signed a multi-million dollar deal for a one-off NYE performance at Copacabana in Brazil. Our sources wouldn't divulge the exact number Mariah's getting, but we're told it's between $2 and $5 million FOR ONE NIGHT OF WORK!!!"

Carey's performances in recent years have often been a real struggle, with her not always able to hit those high notes that were once her trademark. She is also known to be difficult to work with so when you put these things together, are you surprised that she would still command such an astronomical price tag? Is she worth $5 million?

Katy Perry Working on 'Crocodile Tears' New Diss Track Aimed at Taylor Swift

There's no end in sight to the bad blood between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. Hot on the heels of Swifty's "Bad Blood" single I'm now hearing that Perry is currently working on a diss track of her own, tentatively called "Crocodile Tears". Needless to say this song is likely to be pretty condescending but the real surprise may come from Swifty herself. Apparently she welcomes the rivalry and is happy that Perry is willing to continue it!

According to a report by Hollywood Life, Swift believes that the fans will continue to take her side no matter how Perry responds. The source says that because Taylor drew first blood by releasing her song about their ongoing feud first, fans will see her as the woman who was hurt the most by the other’s actions and side with her. “Another theory she has is that because she got her song about their public feud out first, people will side with her as the person most scorned. She’s super-relaxed about it, and welcomes the rivalry. Katy doesn’t scare her one bit.”

A good girl fight always seems to draw a big crowd and rivalries do have a way of keeping people front and center. Do you think that Swift and Perry really hate each other this much or do they really enjoy the extra press that it brings them both? If they were alone together would it be a knock down fight or do you think that behind closed doors these two ladies are laughing all the way to the bank?

Selena Gomez Finally Speaks About Justin Bieber Romance

Are Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber still seeing each other on the DL? That seems to be a forever ongoing question, one that Gomez has completely avoided until now. In a brand new interview the former Disney star is finally speaking out about those years that she spent with Biebs and she also paints a pretty clear picture of her romantic life right now.

Gomez told  the U.K.'s Sunday Times, "It’s difficult for people to separate us. The internet wants to freeze this moment in time and constantly repeat it. “I didn’t think I was doing anything bad by falling in love. There’s such an emphasis on people being the perfect thing and then destroying them because it’s good press. Also throw in the fact that you are a teenager — it makes it more difficult. The next relationship will be something dear to me. There is no way I will ever hide my life. I’ve been working my butt off. I’m dating, but I don’t really want anything right now.”

It has to be nearly impossible to try and maintain a healthy relationship, especially for a couple of teenagers, under the intense scrutiny of the press and public. It probably would have been a lot more surprising if the young couple actually found a way to make it last for real. There have been rumors recently about them reconnecting and hooking up again. Do you think that there's any truth to any of that at all? Might Bieber be one of the guys that Gomez occasionally dates? Or do you think that she has finally found a way to slam the door shut for good?

Will One Direction's Hiatus be Permanent?

This might be the worst week ever for One Direction fans. Sources close to the mega-popular boy band are saying that the guys are gearing up to take an extended hiatus beginning in March. After releasing five albums together the guys are ready to go their separate ways to work on various solo projects.

According to a report by People, "The group, which is now made up of Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, has mutually agreed to take at least a year long break from the band to pursue their own projects, a source confirms to PEOPLE. This break also means there will not be a tour for their fifth album, which is expected to be released later this year."

The obvious question here is whether or not the hiatus will end up being permanent. Even if they anticipate making 1D a thing of the past there is no way that their management would make that kind of announcement. They need the fans to follow them into their solo careers, not be furious with them for pulling the plug on the beloved boy band.

Nick Jonas Debuts Funky New Single 'Levels'

Nick Jonas must have known that I was needing something new to groove to and thankfully, his new single "Levels" totally fits the bill. He just dropped the funky little track and he is scheduled to perform it for the first time on MTV's VMA pre-show next Sunday. If you haven't already heard this then give "Levels" a listen and tell me your thoughts. Will it have the same success as "Jealous"?

Boom Daily 80's Throwback- Pebbles "Girlfriend"

Decades before Taylor Swift's make up and break up anthems were even a possibility, teen girls of the 80's had Pebbles to provide their soundtrack. Back in 1987 Pebbles was actually dating Antonio "LA" Reid (who eventually went on to become a power house in the music industry) who was still performing with Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds in the band, The Deele. Pebbles had a huge hit with "Girlfriend", which encouraged women to crawl out of those lousy relationships and The Deele provided backing vocals and also appeared in the video which had major play on MTV. "Girlfriend" reached number 5 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Boom Daily 80's Throwback- Phil Collins and Phillip Bailey "Easy Lover"

It's hard o believe that it has been 30 years since Phil Collins first agreed to duet with Earth, Wind & Fire's Phillip Bailey on "Easy Lover", a song that topped Billboard's Hot 100 back in 1985. The video to the track showcased he friendship between the two and was in heavy rotation on MTV. Ironically, this song came out just a few months before Collins most successful album, No Jacket Required was released. Four singles off of that hit the top ten making this easily one of Collins best years in music history.

Boom Daily 80's Throwback- Pat Benatar "You Better Run"

Since MTV premiered 34 years ago this week (I can't believe it really has been that long and just how ancient that fact makes me) I think we need to flash back to an original bad ass, Pat Benatar. Her video for "You Better Run" was the second video ever played on MTV and it's actually pretty timeless. Back then viewers knew that Benatar was hot and that the song was pretty cool. What they didn't know was that they were looking at a rock icon in the making. Not only is she still touring and rocking the stage with her husband, Nick Geraldo, but at every single show she still references this video and how honored they are to be a part of MTV history.

After you flash back to 1981 take a look at Benatar and her man in action just a few months ago. She might sound even better now than she did all of those years ago!

Boom Daily 80's Throwback - Shannon "Let The Music Play"

If you were a child of the 80's then I'm going to bet that Shannon's "Let The Music Play" really sticks in your head. It may have only hit #8 on Billboard's Hot 100 back in 1983 but it has a lasting place in musical history. At that time disco was a few years past the point of being dead and this song really helped to usher in a new era of pop/dance music. Shannon was leading the way for a new genre known as freestyle because she reminded music fans that it was okay to just dance and have fun. 

Adam Levine Rumored to Be Headed for a Split from Behati Prinsloo

Adam Levine just celebrated his first anniversary with Behati Prinsloo and already I'm hearing that things are shaky between them.  Apparently those old habits really do die hard for Levine and his wife is having a real problem with his flirting with other women. Levine was always a player before getting together with Prinsloo and it's starting to sound like his being a reformed bad boy was a short-lived thing.

Not that any of this should really come as much of a surprise. For nearly a decade Levine insisted that he would never get married because fidelity wasn't something that he was interested in. For awhile it did look like Prinsloo might have tamed him but sources say not long after they swapped vows Levine began acting like a total player again.

Prinsloo is reportedly having none of his shady behavior and has been keeping a good eye on Levine. Unfortunately she has also transformed into the nagging wife as a way to try and keep her man in check. Do you think that this is simply a rough patch that will pass fairly quickly? Or will Levine's behavior continue until Prinsloo walks away for good?
